As of my last update in September 2021, „Mathare“ is one of the largest slum settlements in Nairobi, Kenya. It is located on the eastern side of the city and is home to a significant portion of Nairobi’s urban poor. Here are some key points about the Mathare slums:

  1. Population and Size: Mathare is densely populated, and estimates of its population vary widely, but it is believed to be home to hundreds of thousands of people. The settlement covers a relatively small area but is densely packed with makeshift structures.

  2. Living Conditions: The living conditions in the Mathare slums are challenging and often characterized by poverty, lack of basic services, and inadequate infrastructure.
